Tiny Faith (Digital Download)

One of our sons is very “literal-minded” and recently I tried to teach him the meaning of rhetorical hyperbole. I’ll need an eternity and the patience of a saint to get the point across. But I think that’s why Jesus used so many different parables to teach about the Kingdom of God. We all have different learning styles and different ways of seeing and being in the world. Jesus uses rhetorical hyperbole to make the point that little is much when it comes from God. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." (Matt 17:20) By using the tiny mustard seed as an example, Jesus is speaking figuratively about the incalculable power of God when unleashed in the lives of those with faith. Faith is a gift from God (Eph 2:8), and the amount of faith to do great things in the kingdom is small indeed. Whatever challenges are in your life right now, whatever decisions or obstacles seem overwhelming I pray your faith will be as tiny as a mustard seed. Soli Deo Gloria! To God alone be the glory.
