Let the Little Children Come to Me
30x40 oil on canvas
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:14
The children in this painting are seen from a bird’s eye view or from what I call the “Angel’s Angle.” Their faces are illuminated with a light from above as if they are looking directly into the face of Jesus. Each of the nine children has been captured with a slightly different expression on their face from pure joy, wonderment to even a bit of awe. You’ll also notice different postures; some children have their arms by their sides or crossed, and one little girl has her arms behind her back. There are different ages, races, and ethnicities represented, but the unifying theme among all the children is their upward stare and the light shining straight down which casts their shadows in all directions. The shadows mirror the parable of the sower when Jesus says the seeds of the kingdom of God will be sown in all directions. May the kingdom of God indeed continue throughout all generations and through the little ones such as these.
