The Sea of Galilee was the geographical focal point for a great deal of Jesus’ ministry. By the sea Jesus called his disciples, taught and healed the crowds, and multiplied the loaves and fishes. He and his disciples crossed the sea often; two of his miracles were performed on the sea when Jesus walked on water and calmed the storm. After his resurrection, Jesus cooked breakfast for his disciples on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. When viewing a painting you sometimes identify yourself in that painting somewhere and thus the artist’s work becomes relevant and alive to you. This painting is dear to my heart because so many times in my life I have wondered what it would have been like to sit in the grass at his feet and simply listen to Him teach and tell stories. I imagined in this painting he was teaching one of the many parables we find in the gospels.
